We have worked with Lockit-Safe for several years, helping to generate leads for bike storage solutions for government departments, councils and businesses.
A couple of councils in London had approached them about creating a full-service solution to provide and manage rentable cycle provision for residents living in the capital.
Lockit-safe asked us to create a simple-to-use system allowing people to book a space within a Bike Nest annually, automate subscriptions and provide a search feature to display available parking spaces on a map.
Prove the concept: this was a new idea for Lockit-safe, and our initial task was to prove the concept and provide a cost-effective solution for this new service. We pulled together a brief to ensure we covered all the required elements and looked at essential and great-to-have features before drafting a simple customer journey with the client.
The website’s core would need to be a bespoke solution; however, as the initial brief was a proof of concept, we used a few plugins on top of WordPress to enable some elements of the heavy lifting. As we started to piece together the project, it soon became clear that we could create a workable, cost-effective solution to prove the concept.
We explained the initial concerns around the initial build with the client and explained the pros and cons of the hybrid approach to the bespoke build supported by premium plugins. Soon after, we had the green light, and work was underway for this exciting project.
We created a full brief to ensure that we were all on the same page and understood the project’s requirements (and limitations) with clear instructions on the primary objectives to ensure this project was successful.
Most customers would access the website via a mobile phone, so the customer journey started here, ensuring that the site was fast, easy to use and utilised a mobile phone’s capabilities.
A large, best-in-class search feature was front and centre of the design, allowing people to see all Bike Nests within a specified radius of their desired postcode. We enhanced the search options using the Google Maps API and created a simple colour-coded system: green for available, red for fully booked, and amber for Bike Nests managed by councils directly.
We agreed on an off-the-peg plugin to provide the subscription functionality and allow automated payments taken each year. We use this project as an example of how an initial investment can provide a proof of concept and an ideal solution for the early stages of a new business or product.
